In Tales of the Rockledge Reevers, a completed young adult novel set in a sleep-away  camp settled in northern New Jersey, Drew Porter has just moved to the United States from England--suspiciously without his parents.  His temporary guardians (his aunt and uncle) decide that the teen would do well with a summer of socialization and fun, so Drew is shipped off to Camp Apache.  However, this is the last thing Drew wants, deeply afraid of someone learning
the painful secrets in his past.

On the bus ride to camp, he meets Sam Anderson, Chase Carpenter and Bryan Glasby--long time friends and pranksters extraordinaire.  A unique friendship is formed, based in a common love of pranks and football (American, not English).  Chase is the unofficial leader of the Reevers- always scheming and looking for pranks that no one else would dare to undertake.   His cousin, Bryan, adds humor to the group, sometimes at his own expense.  And there are few things that Sam will not try, including hoisting his long-time rival’s underwear up a flagpole--with him still in it.

In between fighting off rampaging raccoons, stealing a Porta Potty, escaping stink bombs, and trying not to sink canoes, the four form a friendship that cannot be broken, despite Drew’s insistence on being left alone.  It isn’t until Sam is gravely injured during a prank that the British boy realizes he’s come to think of these boys as friends.

Each adventure brings Drew closer to understanding the meaning of friendship.  He throws a surprise birthday party for a forgotten friend, participates in the camp play, and nearly gives the Arts and Crafts instructor a mental breakdown.  He also learns what it means to be a friend--comforting Chase after he looses someone close to him, helping Sam recover from his
accident, and letting his friends help him conquer his fear of storms.

By the end of the summer, Drew begins to finally heal from a past no child should ever have to endure.  He is confronted by his friends, claiming they know the truth he’s worked so hard to hide.  Stunned to learn Sam was an abused child, Drew confides the story of his mother’s death and his role in it, his father’s withdrawal from his only child and eventual remarriage, and Drew’s abandonment when his father and stepmother move away, leaving him behind.

Release your inner miscreant and join the adventure of a summer at Camp Apache, and journey with Drew on his voyage to friendship and forgiveness.
